I yearned for the heat, for the Central American people, the colours; bright greens, blues, pinks, not just the brightly painted buildings but the sunsets and sunrises too. I craved the abundance of fresh fruit. Salsa and reggaeton oozing from doorways; a taste of a different world. A culture so distant from the bleakness of a grey Northern Hemisphere winter. That was what I craved.

One Day // Porto De Mos

We surfed for hours. Revelling in every second of this purest of joys. Smiles beaming. Grinning from ear to ear. Eyes squinting in that delicious winter sun. Each wave just as much fun as the last. The novelty of the warm sun on my face completely failed to wear off. I didn't want to get out. Pushing myself further with steeper take offs, pulling in to whatever came my way. Even the wipeouts on those waves I underestimated filled me with more joy than I thought was possible.

I fell in love with Sagres this time. It was a completely different experience to all the other times I had visited. This time round, I was on my own, and I loved it. I have travelled solo a few times before and I can't recommend it enough. It makes you feel so free, you can do whatever you want, and if you're worried about being on your own... just don't! You will never be alone for long; there are always like-minded people out there.
